Will my Android frame work?
Check the exact model, firmware, and installation access before you buy or install.
What the app needs
- Android 6.0 / API 23 or newer is the current source target. Check the actual minimum Android version on each published APK release.
- A working Android WebView. Older or restricted OEM WebViews may behave differently.
- A way to install an APK, such as an Android browser, Files with microSD access, or ADB.
- Home-network access for discovery and pairing with Hearthboard on iPhone.
The development frame
Development includes a PF1007L photo frame running a specific Android 6 firmware. That unit required device-specific provisioning to expose installation access and enable some hardware controls. It is evidence for that unit and firmware, not a blanket endorsement of every PF1007L, AEEZO, Anna Bella, or AiMOR-branded frame.
Brand names and model labels can be reused across different boards and firmware. Before buying, confirm the exact model, Android version, firmware build, WebView, and whether you can install an APK.
Hardware features vary
- Brightness control may need Android’s Modify system settings permission.
- True backlight-off behavior depends on the panel and firmware. Dimming the app is not always the same as switching off the backlight.
- Motion wake needs an actual supported presence sensor, or a configured external presence source. An accelerometer does not establish presence detection.
- Automatic launch after reboot works best when Hearthboard is the default Home app. OEM startup rules may add restrictions.
- Reboot requires actual Android permission or supported device-owner management. Root access in an ADB shell does not automatically grant the app reboot access.
Ordinary installation versus frame modification
If your frame exposes Android settings and allows APK installation, follow the standard Frame installation guide. No root or device-owner setup is required just to run the app.
If stock firmware blocks installation, stop at that point. Unlocking a frame, changing boot images, installing a privileged system app, or altering backlight permissions requires a model- and firmware-specific procedure, a verified backup, and a recovery route. The general installation guide does not perform those changes.
Do not copy another unit’s partition offsets or boot image simply because its product name matches. Model-specific provisioning instructions will be published separately when they are ready.

When reporting compatibility, include the model, Android version, firmware build, WebView version, and installation method. Tell us which features you tested: pairing, reboot startup, brightness, sleep/wake, motion, and updating.
Remove serial numbers, MAC addresses, Wi-Fi details, account information, and pairing codes from screenshots and logs before posting publicly.
