Frame settings & daily use
Home app, brightness, sleep, presence, and returning to Android settings.
Find your display settings
Tap the dashboard, then open the gear menu. Display settings include brightness, warmth, sleep schedules, and the presence options the device actually supports. Your iPhone companion can also expose supported remote settings.
Screen warmth is a Hearthboard preference. It affects the dashboard and its photos; it does not recolor Android’s own system settings.
Brightness and backlight
Use Allow backlight control to grant Modify system settings. Without it, the app may only dim its own window. Actual brightness range and whether zero fully switches off the backlight depend on your frame.
A light sensor is required for built-in automatic brightness. If the frame does not report one, do not expect that option to work. Device-specific backlight changes are separate from the general APK installation.
Sleep, wake, and presence
Choose a sleep schedule and a wake duration appropriate to the room. Tap is a useful wake source on frames without a supported motion sensor.
Built-in presence is offered only when a usable sensor exists. You can configure supported external presence sources when available. A product listing that mentions motion is not proof that Android exposes the sensor to ordinary apps.
Start after reboot
Set Hearthboard as the default Home app where supported. The app starts its host service after boot, but Android and OEM restrictions can prevent it from opening the dashboard unless it is the selected Home app.
If your frame has autostart or protected-app settings, allow Hearthboard there. Reboot and confirm both the dashboard and iPhone connection recover. A stock frame may need additional device-specific work.
Open Android settings and return
The Device controls & Android settings panel offers shortcuts to Wi-Fi, display, sound, storage, and other system pages. On frames without Android navigation buttons, the app may request overlay access for a Back to Hearthboard button.
Native settings stay open until you close them. Hearthboard yields brightness control while Android settings are open and imports relevant changes on return. Reboot controls appear only when the app has the required permission.
Return to another launcher
Choose another default Home app in Android settings before removing Hearthboard. Uninstalling deletes the app’s local data, including pairings and saved configuration.
If your frame was provisioned as a system app or device owner, use that specific provisioning procedure’s undo instructions. A general uninstall is not a replacement for restoring modified firmware.
